The David Luiz and James moment is even more special because one used to play for FC Porto and the other for Benfica and we (and by we I mean the teams) hate each other and this is what makes football so beautiful and I’m really proud of James because this was his World Cup and David Luiz just showed again the incredible person he is.
“The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.”—Rabindranath Tagore (via sapta-loka)
I used to think my dad was super shitty. But the more mistakes I made in my own life, the more obstacles were thrown my way, the more I developed a sense of compassion for the human experience. I started asking questions about his life, his childhood, his experiences (to others, not him) and developed an understanding of his personal demons. While that doesn’t justify the fact he hasn’t confronted them, it also reminded me that our parents are still figuring it out too. So on a day like today, extract the lesson from your pain. And send your dad positive thoughts that he will one day be ok, too.
Happy Father’s Day to those who have gotten it right. And Happy Father’s Day to those who are still figuring it out.
